If you need to install Peachtree on your workstation, or you are using this book at home, you must register your student version with Sage Software by visiting http://na.sage.com/us/about-us/education. The student registration and download section is at the bottom of this page. Clicking on the register link will allow you email Sage and request a serial number that is required for installation.
Peachtree 2012 Student Data files Installation Instructions
Before you begin the installation process, check with your instructor to see if Peachtree Complete Accounting and/or the company files have already been loaded in a designated location for you. If you do need to install Peachtree on your workstation or you are using this book at home, you must register your student version with Sage Peachtree Software by visiting http://na.sage.com/us/about-us/education. The student registration and download section is at the bottom of this page. Clicking on the register link will allow you email Sage and request a serial number that is required for installation. Once registered, simply place the Student Resources DVD in your disc drive, and the Peachtree installation program will start automatically and guide you through installing the software. If this does not start automatically, browse to your CD/DVD drive and double click the autorun.exe file.
The version of Peachtree available on the Student Resources DVD is known as the Student version; the version that is preinstalled at some institutions is known as the Education version. The institutional Education version and disc-delivered Student version are identical and compatible. The Student version and Education version of Peachtree Complete Accounting has the same features and functions—except for the Fixed Assets Module (needed for the Appendix)—included in the commercial version, but is not upgradeable.
Extracting Company Files from the CD
If you are using a computer in a lab setting, we suggest that you create a separate folder on either your hard drive or in a designated network directory in which to save the Peachtree company files that you create, open, and add to while working through this book. Your instructor may have already set up a designated location for your files. Once you have either created that folder or been told where your folder is, take the following steps to extract the company files from the CD to your folder:
- Insert the Computerized Accounting with Peachtree 2012 DVD into the CD/DVD drive.
- The Peachtree installation program will start automatically and guide you through installing the software. If this does not start automatically, browse to your CD/DVD drive and double click the autorun.exe file.
- At the Welcome to Peachtree Accounting window, click “Browse Disc”.
- Double-click Peachtree 2012 Student Data Files (Company Files).exe.
- Confirm with your instructor where your company files should be located.
- In the Peachtree 2012 Student Data Files (Company Files) Setup window, click Browse and locate the folder where you will be storing your company files.
- Click OK and Next, Next.
